Chapter 2

Magical Realism

For this chapter, the magical realism seem to be the affects of the children who are born out of incest. It is thought that children born out of incest will have many defects and disabilities, but in this chapter they are being born with parts of animals. This is a sort of reality for children to be have defects but not this extreme.

Characters

Jose Acardio seems to be changing a lot in this chapter. He at first seems to be very strong and instinctive
, but these character start to influence wrong choices. Instead of using them to a positive benefits, he engages in sexual intercourse with a prostitute, then leaves with the gypsies without logical reasoning. He is not really being of any help to anyone and thinks of himself in th
e long run.

Summary

This chapter starts off by telling the past of Jose Arcardio Buendia and Ursula.
They were born in a small village, and great-grandchildren of the island of Riohacha. Ursula didn't want to have children with Jose because two of their relatives gave birth to children with a pig’s tail. Everyone made fun of José Arcadio Buendía thinking he was incapable of having sex, so he ends up killing a man. His conscious bothered him about killing the man and ended up leaving the town and starting Mocondo. Meanwhile, his son, José Arcadio is attracted to a lady named Pilar, who only likes him because he has a big penis. She becomes pregnant. Then he soon falls in love with a gypsy girl and leaves with them. Ursula is mad about the departure of her son and tries to follow him but along the way sees an outer connection to Mocondo.

Quotes

" 'You go to hell,' Jose' Acardio Buendia shouted at him. 'Just as many times as you come back, I'll kill you again' "

-This quote is significant to the mockery that Jose had to face and how he responded to it.

"We're going to leave this town, just as far away as we can go, And we'll never come back. Go in peace now."

This quote is significant to how Jose and Ursula moved away in order ot start the town of Mocondo.

Theme

Relations-This chapter displays a lot of various acts of intercourse as well as the constant "hooking up" with women.

You started this blog really well. It's artistic and I see that you put a lot of effort into it. However, you stop at chapter 2. We are on ch. 8 with ch. 9 being assigned for h.w. tomorrow!

You have to catch up. At least start with the newer chapters and go back to the previous ones. USe class time to read if you need to. This project is quite do-able.
